Abstract
This chapter explores the transformative potential of digital technologies in public procurement. The chapter underscores the inefficiency and waste often associated with traditional public procurement systems and proposes digitalization as a viable solution. Specifically, this chapter provides a comprehensive understanding of digital transformation in the context of public procurement, focusing on the application of emerging technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain technologies. It discusses how these technologies can enhance efficiency, transparency, and value for money (VfM) in public procurement while also addressing the challenges associated with their implementation. The chapter concludes with select examples of implemented cases and a forward-looking perspective on the future of digital transformation in public procurement, emphasizing the need for ongoing research, innovation, and holistic strategies to fully harness these technologies' potential.
