Abstract

Music performance
A kaleidoscopic film of ecclesiastical and architectural imagery, made to accompany the 25-part motet Transiens, which takes as its point of departure the Eton Choirbook canon Jesus autem transiens. Filmed at St James’, King Street, and Christ Church St Laurence in Sydney, the work investigates whether the sacred architecture for which such polyphony was conceived can function as a visual analogue of its structure, setting symmetry and recurrence in the image against canon and multiplicity in the music. The researcher structured and oversaw the edit of the film. The deposited extract is drawn from the full twenty-five minute film.
