Abstract
Human resources have become increasingly vital in any organisation and training and development has become a significant and purposeful investment. The productivity and profitability of employees can be considerably increased by implementing this strategy. Training and development programmes are regarded as an investment that delivers benefits in the eyes of employees. Employees who participate in vocational training and development programmes were interviewed to determine what motivates them to continue their careers in pharmacy industry. Specifically, the goal of this study is to determine how employees perceive the training and development programme that was previously provided by a Sydney based pharmacy outlet, as well as how satisfied employees are with training programmes offered at their place of employment. Interviews with seven pharmacy staff members were conducted using a qualitative research method using an interview method for this study. The required training and development must be provided to employees in order for them to do their duties effectively. Specifically, the views of employees toward the company's training and development programmes were investigated in this study. In accordance with the initial concept, 15-18 volunteers were expected to take part in the study; however, only seven of them accepted to take part after being rejected on multiple occasions. An exploratory grounded theory method of qualitative was applied to study a peculiar phenomenon of employee's perception on training in the pharmacy. The pharmacy employees who participated in the study were chosen using a snowball sampling method. Semi-structured interviews with pharmacy assistants provided the majority of the information gathered for this study. Snowball sampling method was applied in order to extract the data from the sampling frame of employees.xii The findings of inductive research that were pertinent to the study's objectives were drawn upon in this study to construct the theoretical framework. The data was broken down by using Weber technique of coding then, to help decipher the data even more thoroughly, Unitizing, Categorising, and Classifying (UCC) method within MS Excel was used. The views of the participants in regard to the workplace training were analogous and comparable. Some of the participants were of the belief that training offered in the pharmacy were highly motivating and others raised concerns that the training could have been more effective if it had been provided to all employees rather than just a select group of them. The overall findings revealed that employees' perception on workplace training provided by their ultimate supervisor were associated with their degree of motivation at the individual level. The findings also reveal that employees are motivated at work and has a good attitude towards workplace training and they are more willing to take more responsibilities through work engagement. The findings of this study can be used for further research related to the viewpoints of employees in the workplace, and in particular, the perception of employees on training.
