Abstract

One of the most conspicuous challenges of today's corporate world is to reduce turnover intention. Since, every organisation is now aiming to lower turnover intentions and emotional illhealth, research on the factors affecting these two variables is crucial. Applying the JD-R Model, this study investigates the relationship between job resources, work engagement, emotional illhealth and turnover intentions. Twenty-one (21) hypotheses were derived from existing literature and the JD-R Model and tested using data collected from 173 respondents. The data was collected using an online survey and tested on three respondent categories, namely all respondents, respondents from Asian and non-Asian countries. Findings reveal variations in the hypotheses test results obtained across the respondent groups, thus confirming the impact of contextual factors on interactions between JD-R Model variables. This study contributes to literature by identifying relevant contextual factors that influence the relationship between JD-R Model variables and contributes to theory by highlighting considerations that managers can implement to reduce employee emotional ill-health and turnover intentions. This study also identifies research areas that future studies can pursue to contribute to the debate on the JD-R Model
