Abstract
The significance of networking ties is becoming increasingly important for organizations and as well as for employees. Creativity is not only linked with unique thinking patterns but also helps in seeing the bigger picture, problem-solving, and boosting productivity. One of the major reasons for the enormous importance of network ties is its link with the creative thinking pattern. This study investigates the hypothesis that different network ties (Expressive ties, Instrumental ties, and Multiplex ties) have varied impacts on employee creativity. Further, in presence of environmental uncertainty, changes in the existing strength of the relationship between network ties and creativity are also examined in this study. The study also examined how the creativity of employees can be different based on personal characteristics such as age, gender, experiences, and academic qualifications. This study adopted a quantitative methodology to assess the relationship between ties, creativity, and uncertainty. The convenience sampling method was adopted for sample selection whereas, correlation and regression were used for further analysis and assessment. The findings indicated that network ties (expressive, instrumental, and multiplex) positively influence creativity and, the presence of environmental uncertainty was not evident enough to weaken the existing relationship between network ties and creativity. Demographic factors like age, gender, experience, and academic qualification do not influence the level of creativity. The major theoretical contribution of this study is that all three network ties positively influence creativity among which, multiplex ties have a stronger impact. Moreover, environmental uncertainty does not weaken the existing relationship between ties and creativity. Demographic indicators do not influence creativity. For practice, this study informs that for better nourishment of creativity, more focus should be given to increasing the circle of the network (professional and friendship).
