Abstract

Acculturation explains the process of cultural transition from culture of origin to host society that results following meeting at multiple levels in both interacting cultures. As sport is a microcosm of society, it has gained significant attention as a multicultural adjustment policy of study. The purpose of this study was to discuss interactive acculturation theories and the application of theories of development which challenges inter-ethnic issues in contemporary research on sport among immigrant and host group members. The study also purported to provide a theoretical reformulation of acculturation and sports related with establishing the feasible research hypotheses by further study. For accomplishing this purpose of the study, the theory-based view focused on the concepts of interactive-acculturation and interpreted the understanding their relationships between acculturation strategies and sport participation patterns and constraints. Based on the reformulation of the theory-based view, cross-cultural sport researchers are allowed to construct theories by applying concepts in identifying ①the relationships between variables of individual/social levels and interactive acculturation strategies and processes; ②the relationship between mediating and moderating effects of interactive acculturation strategies and levels of sport participation on the inter-ethnic relations; ③the influence of sport participation constraints on interactive acculturation strategies and levels of sport participation.
