Abstract
The present study examined the influence of fencing coaches' leadership styles on athlete characteristics, performance and satisfaction of athlete's life among young fencing player. Participants (n=458) were members of highschool fencing team who participated in the 42th Korea President Cup National Fencing Championship, Korea. Methods were performed by ANOVA and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 20.0, a statistics program. Results indicated that the authentic and charismatic leadership types of fencing coaches were partially perceived by different athlete's grades and numbers of awards. Both authentic and charismatic leaderships have positive effects on the performance of fencing athletes and satisfaction of athlete's life. Specifically, the vision suggestion of charismatic leadership has a positive effect on the performance, while both pursing results and vision suggestion have positive effects on satisfaction of athlete's life. Recommendations for transformational leadership are discussed.
