Abstract

Music composition and improvisation
XLX extends the 40-part research of XL (see B2) to 50 voices – commissioned by Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and premiered at the Sydney Opera House. The score publication (late 2026) makes this extreme-density polyphonic research available for scholarly analysis. The jump from 40 to 50 voices required methodological innovations in the management of dense counterpoint and its presentation in printed form, and the published score documents these solutions.
