Abstract
In memoria is a radiophonic poem combining live choral performance (The Clerks) with electroacoustic processing, recorded at the Crossness Pumping Station (a Victorian industrial cathedral). The work investigates how acoustic space – specifically, an extreme reverberant environment not designed for music – can become a compositional parameter rather than mere performance context. It generates new knowledge about the interaction between choral polyphony and architectural resonance when the architecture is treated as an active element of the composition rather than a passive container. Part of the portfolio for the degree of Doctor in Church Music (DMus, Central School of Religion, non-accredited), conferred 2026.
