Biographical Details

Dr Natalie Somhom integrates research and practical experience to prepare future educators for meaningful work in early childhood settings. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Education) from Macquarie University, where her research focused on self‑regulation in Australian ECEC settings, as well as a Master of Research (Education) from Macquarie University with a focus on autobiographical memory, and a Master of Education (Educational Management) from Mahidol University. Her research journey began with investigating how primary school children in Thailand learn English, which sparked a deeper interest in the early experiences that shape learning across the lifespan and led to cross‑cultural studies on autobiographical memory in emerging adults in Thailand and Australia. Drawing on both academic insight and practical experience gained while working in childcare during her doctoral studies, she brings a grounded and holistic perspective to her teaching. As the Course Coordinator for Placement across the BECE and GDECT programs, she supports students as they connect theory with practice and grow into confident early childhood professionals.
